During December, 1995 I conducted experiments to begin to probe the question of whether radio transmissions from amateur radio, CBs, police cars, or other sources should be considered a safety hazard in the presence of rocket motors prepped with igniters.

As you will learn in the articles that follow, I feel that my testing has barely scratched the surface of this issue, and that others should pursue the question further to produce the professional and statistically valid results needed to answer these questions. I hope that my publishing of this experiment may prompt others to continue in this area. I envision manufacturers of rocket igniters contributing to such an effort as well as members of the amateur (ham) radio community. I would be happy to help get people interested in an effort along these lines, but it is clear to me that I do not possess the statistical or scientific experience to be a major player in the testing itself.
The articles that follow provide the complete report of the experiments I performed along with my statements and disclaimers about what I think the testing shows. I would be interested in hearing your comments about the testing I did or how you think additional testing might be championed and organized.
