Medalion Michael's Astronomy Page

Note: Mike wrote this many years ago when he was in the fourth grade. He has let us keep it here for other young people even though his knowledge of astronomy and his writing ability are way beyond what they were when he wrote this. Thanks, Mike.

I really like learning about astronomy. I have computer programs that tell me a lot about it. I have learned all the planets and their moons. My favorite planet is Jupiter because it's the biggest planet in our solar system, and I like its moons. I also like it because it is made out of hydrogen and helium.
At my school the last presentation I did was about Jupiter and its moons. I talked about all the moons, but especially the four major moons, Ganymede, Calisto, Io, and Europa.
Ganymede is interesting because it is the only moon in our solar system that is bigger than a planet. It is bigger than planet Mercury. Calisto is a very dark moon that is sometimes hard to see because it does not reflect much light. Io is a very interesting moon because it has volcanoes that erupt Sulfur. Europa is large moon compared to ours, and most of its outer material is ice.
